A morsel of Perception

Perception Deception

Are we deceiving ourselves? What's your Perception?

Our reality is based on how we perceive our world through our senses. If our perception is narrow or even closed we limit our abilities.

In "reality" this is completely true, everything begins in our minds. And we can learn to have greater control over our minds, naturally.

What does this mean? It means that we make our world REAL by how we feel it, see it, hear it, taste it, and smell it.

In other words, our reality is simply a perceptual experience. Here is Googles definition.

per·cep·tion is a noun

  1. the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses.

"the normal limits to human perception"

And who is to say "normal limits" when human beings only use 10% of our brains. Who's to define our limits, if we were to use even 40% of our brain. Would we then feel"unlimited" in our perception.

Is there a ceiling to perception... I think not, it is simply one's perception.

  • a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impression.

Perception is personal and fluid.

And why is this important?

Our reality can change by simply and easily by shifting perception. When we have tunnel vision, when life seems stale, when we can’t imagine a new path, or when we feel we’re just hanging on; a change in perception can generate a powerful shift, to help someone see new opportunities or articulate in a fresh way.

Reality is, we don't really like change. We must reach a point where it is more uncomfortable remaining the way things are, than moving on. if helps to go to a professional who can move your perception faster than doing it yourself. But first we must desire change.

Change is created when we engage our personal psychology to shift our perception to a fresh revelation. An epiphany!

Now that you are aware of the temporary and fluctuating nature of perception, realize it is not as hard as you may think. It is a process of learning more about our personal perceptions, how they influence us and the world around us. How perception influence our choices or how our deceptive perception make us believe we "lack choice".

Greatly simplified, we can improve our perception by identifying and understanding our representational systems. Afterwards, we can learn other peoples and really expand.

The Representational model clarifies why we all experience things a little bit differently. Siblings, friendship, partnerships and marriages; in many cases, often the same circumstance, but a different reality. Representational systems also impact the way we learn.

We learn and grasped ideas differently from the next person, because our representational system are different. I talented teacher uses a variety of tool including representational systems, so no one gets left behind.

If you read my blog on Representational systems then I get into details for the "specific thinker, but in general: Visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory and gustatory are the big 5

The stronger three representational models are Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic. Most use a combination of at least 3.

Visual: People utilize a lot of “visual type” words in their language. They like to "see" things in learning. If a student, they would write down the lecture that was spoken (auditory people may not, they would like to record it!)

  • Visual people say things like; “I see that” Rather than “I get that” (Kinesthetic: the action of going and getting something)
  • It was like a "light bulb going off in my head", a "flash of recognition"; I can "see the horizon"…

Auditory People may be talkative, outspoken, like to hear their voice, maybe they sing in the shower. Professional that use their voice. You will notice their language is auditory in nature.

  • An auditory person would say; “I hear ya”, "it was screaming to me", "I’ll go whimper off" .., "I was tongue tied" or "that resonated with me".
  • Auditory people perceive their world through what they hear.

Kinesthetic person’s perception of the world is “felt”. Someone’s emotions “touched” them. They got a “handle” on their work. They “feel” “under” “Pressure”; or another example, when it “boils” right “down” to it.

Why else about perception is important?

Science states that “we are” “what we think”. What does this mean?

Harvard, Yale and the New England Journal of Medicine and much of psychology; agree that Psychology is holistic. Our thoughts initiate the biological processes within our body.

This is where perception deception becomes very important, because biological processes determine how healthy we are.

For example, if someone’s language is often a reaction of anger. "Negative" hormones and chemicals are released from their brain; as a result of those angry feelings, thoughts or words; and flush through this person's body, creating tension, anxiety, stress, sleeplessness and more.

Once we react in anger, our brain creates a memory of this reaction and is more likely to repeat it.

For example. the more we engage an emotion or reaction like anger, the stronger an "impulse" for anger becomes. A classic example of addiction patterns.

But now we realize, we can unlearn these addiction patterns and take control of our thoughts and behavior!

With the awareness, that perception is only an estimation of any experience, can we learn to lessen its' deception and help ourselves be healthier and happier all at the same time? Science says yes.

We are now aware, we have more control over our conscious and subconscious minds that we first believed and this will only expand beyond where it is now.

Why is this so?

We only utilize a small portion of our brain power but we are learning to access more all the time!

Physiological controls, strategies (Meta Model) Habits and impulses happen in the sub-conscious mind, and with tools like N.L.P. we can access more of this powerful brain, bi-pass and influence the limitations on of our conscious brain.

Many industries already manipulate our sub-conscious brains for their benefit. Sales people often gain these subliminal communication skills to become better at selling. The movie industry tricks our sub-conscious mind all the time, that’s why we feel frightened or experience anxiety while watching a drama or horror film.

Human beings love to feel thrilled, experience drama, all from the safety of the couch! Sweat palms, anxiety, or a scream when startled. What this also proves is that our brains react to both reality and fantasy. Both initiate a biological reaction.

Another example is advertising. Consider that any time we view or hear advertising, subliminal triggers are being engaged. Buyer beware!

Who uses tools like NLP?

  • Psychologist
  • Homeopaths
  • Teachers
  • Sales people
  • HR Managers
  • Social workers
  • Leaders
  • Workshop leaders
  • Politicians
  • Anywhere we communicate, these tools become valuable

How is it used?

  • To Motivate, to increase awareness of new possibilities and opportunities
  • To change Behavior or promotes positive change
  • To teach a person how to use their brain
  • Study excellence and teaches skills to enhance excellence

How is it available for our use? Experience it or learn it!

Experience: We experience expanded power and influence over our perception, reaction and actions. Because our conscious mind (the 10%) is responsible for our willpower, analytical abilities and our rationale and thwarted anytime we are hungry, angry, lonely or tired… it gives us more reason to learn more about N.L.P. because N.L.P. bi-passes willpower and fast tracks our abilities and expands our perception.

Why is that good? Our ability to make good decisions is in direct correlation to what we know at that moment. If our perception is limited, we could make for a poor decision. N.L.P. Expands perception.

N.L.P. access to our unconscious brain, we gain influence over and learn to correct unwanted behavior and addictions.

By working within our subconscious mind, we are simply better, faster, stronger, I call this our untapped” Super Power”.
